DSP Spotlight – Erik Ellwood

We’re celebrating DSP Week by spotlighting some of our compassionate and hard-working Direct Support Professionals and Career Specialists. They’re the heart of our industry. Because of their dedication, we’re able to help hundreds of individuals with disabilities live fulfilling lives in central Missouri.

Erik Ellwood

Today, we talked to Erik Ellwood, Career Specialist in our Career Services program.

How long have you worked for ACT?

3 months.

What’s your favorite memory while working at ACT?

When I began to see progress in some of the first individuals I worked with. It was so rewarding to see them succeed and then light up when they noticed how far they had come.

What brought you to this line of work?

I love working with people, and I love making a difference in the lives of others. I always hated being 100% desk-bound, and this gives me the best of both worlds.

Why do you like working with ACT?

I love working with such diverse individuals, both within the office and out in the community. The individuals I coach are such amazing people, and I love finding ways to make them shine.

If you had a superhero name what would it be?

Shine.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and why?

I personally would love to be able to teleport. Time spent in the car always feels so tedious to me, and it’d give me a way to go visit so many fun places.

Thank you, Erik. You’ve made a positive difference already in the short time you’ve been here. Thanks for choosing to be a part of our team!
